In recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States, we are pausing our usual writing this week. Wherever you are in the world and whichever holidays you celebrate, we hope the long weekend brings time to reset and enjoy time with your family and friends.
Because our team loves history, we could not help refrain from providing the context of this special holiday:
Thanksgiving traces its origins to the early 17th century, when English Pilgrims and members of the Wampanoag tribe gathered in Plymouth in 1621 to celebrate a successful harvest. The holiday evolved regionally over the centuries, but it was during the American Civil War that Thanksgiving became an official national holiday. President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national day of "Thanksgiving and Praise" in 1863, seeking to unite the country amidst turmoil.
In his proclamation, Lincoln urged Americans to set aside the last Thursday of November as a day to give thanks, stating: “To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come... I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States... to set apart and observe the last Thursday... as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” Thanksgiving is a cherished holiday for Americans, reminding us of our many blessings as a nation and reminding us of our ability to endure and overcome difficult times.
As a firm, we write about a wide range of themes that reflect the breadth of our investment theses. One of our key focuses includes gaming technologies at the core of building the future of interactive entertainment. With that in mind, we asked the Konvoy team to share the latest games they love returning to over the holidays and pulled together a set of recommendations for anyone looking for something new to play (or an old classic to bring back).
